BAHAMAS NATIONAL STADIUM READY FOR CARIFTA

The Bahamas aiming to be the premier sporting destination in the region
 The Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture is confident in a successful 2013 CARIFTA GAMES, and the final preparations are now underway for the event, which will be held during the first week of April.  The best athletes from countries around the Caribbean will converge on the shores of the Bahamas to compete in the premier event for Caribbean athletes.  These events provide a good perception of how Caribbean athletes will perform when Olympics are held again.


Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture Dr. Daniel Johnson announced on Thursday, February 28, 2013 during a press conference that the track in the national stadium was properly prepared and achieved IAF standards.

BAAA President Mike Sands told the press that the Bahamas will host about 500 athletes for the games and in addition, some 40 coaches from the United States will also be at CARIFTA.

Minister Johnson pointed out the vision and passion that former Minister of Sports Kendal Nottage had for the the Bahamas to become the number one sporting destination in the region.  He aspires to make Mr. Nottage's vision come to fruition, and the success of the CARIFTA games would be a step in the right direction.

A Sports Conclave followed the press conference.  Major stakeholders in sporting associations and entities are present as the wheels are set in motion for The Bahamas to become a premier sporting destination.
